MARCH 1, 1919 - FEBRUARY 4, 2010

Our Mother, Edna Brown, passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter Linda and dear friend Marlene on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 90 years of age.

Mom will always be remembered by her children, Bob (Darlene) Brown of Gibsons, BC, Barbara (Bill) Kroll of Sundre, AB, and Linda Mattioli (Walt Saar) of Kamloops, BC; grandchildren Raymond, Trent, Taia, Tara, Lois, Jacquie, Shelly, Brian and Bonnie; numerous great grandchildren and her sister Margaret Mann. She was predeceased by her husband Horrie and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mom was born to Johanna and Daniel Olsen March 1, 1919 in Alix, AB. The family moved shortly after she was born and homesteaded in the Vermilion, AB area for many years. Life on the farm with seven brothers and sisters made for interesting times and colourful stories that will remain with us forever. Farm life was wonderful but as the children matured opportunity for work was not there. At a young age of 15, Mom moved to Banff, AB to join her sister Alpha. Shortly after arriving in Banff she met the "Love of her Life" Horrie Brown. The couple married November 18th, 1939 in the Presbyterian Church in Banff and their journey began. Their son Bob was born in December 1940, and daughters Barbara in 1942 and Linda in 1948. While Dad served in the Army during World War II, Mom was raising two small children in Banff. When Dad returned from the war he worked helping to build the Banff Jasper Hwy. Mom wanted to be closer to her husband so took on the position of head cook for 22 men at the camp on the highway along with caring for two small children. Returning to Banff would bring new opportunities for the family as well as a new addition to the family. Mom worked at many jobs in Banff during her life and ended a twenty-year career with The Bay in 1978. Our home was open to many people over the years, from tourists from around the world to summer staff that needed a place to stay. In 1979 Mom and Dad made a huge decision to leave Banff and retire in Richmond, BC to once again be closer to Mom's sister Alpha. In 1981 they moved once again to Abbotsford where they would stay for many years, being active in the community and enjoying their love of curling. Dad passed away in 2000 and Mom moved to Kamloops in 2002 to be closer to family. She had a wonderful life here and enjoyed her new apartment and her independence. Playing Keno with her new friends at the Northills Mall was a great pleasure. Unfortunately Mom was dealt a difficult hand a few years ago but that did not stop her from enjoying life and moving on. She has spent the last couple of years at Pinegrove Care Center and found new life in the staff and residents there. We would like to extend our deep appreciation to all the staff at Pinegrove, you are very special angels. We lived in peace knowing that she was in your wonderful care. We would also like to thank Mom's special friends Betty, Marlene and Rod, without you, this journey would have been impossible.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Edna's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vern Frudd officiating. A Memorial Service will also be held in Banff in June 2010 at which time Edna will be laid to rest with her husband Horrie in the Brown Family Plot.
