Hollis Wilbur Cook
COOK, HOLLIS WILBUR - (1921 - 2013) - Mr. Hollis Wilbur Cook formerly of Seal Cove Grand Manan Island passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital Friday, March 29, 2013. Born on Grand Manan Island he was the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Russell) Cook. He served with the 3rd (NB) Coast Brigade of the Royal Canadian Army during World War II, in both the United Kingdom and Europe. Later he returned to Grand Manan to enjoy his life’s work as a fisherman and later a grocery store owner. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44 and also a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. He is survived by his daughters; Dr. Beverly Cook (John Brander) of Fredericton, NB, Barbara Wishart (Barry) of Scotchtown, NB. His grandsons John and Micheal Wishart of Montreal, PQ, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Elmina Cook, his two brothers; Lawrence and Russell, and special friend Bernice Thomas. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Ridgewood Veterans Wing for the care and compassion they provided during his time there. Also the staff of 5C North at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the care and comfort they provided him during his recent illness.
Visiting hours will take place from Ells Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dana Dean officiating. There will be a reception following the service at St. Paul’s Hall and all are invited to attend following the service. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery. Wilbur’s family has requested that donations may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
