Florence Lillian Stevens

Born In: Bras d'Or

Passed on: March 28th, 2013

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother at the age of 80.
Our dear Florence passed peacefully on March 28, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
A longtime resident of Blackett’s Lake, she was well known as an avid gardener, whose flowers brightened many of her neighbours yards as well as her own. Florence’s kindness was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a loving wife, an understanding mother and a friend to everyone who needed a hand or a sympathetic ear. She loved to laugh and could always find the humorous side to things.
Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late Robert Slade and Sophie (Clark) Slade.
She is survived by her husband Lorne; sons, Sheldon (Sheila) Slade, Ontario; and Lawrence (Sandra) Stevens, Moncton; and daughters, Linda (Greg) DuBois, Blackett’s Lake, and Verna (Hani Diab) Stevens, Ottawa. She is survived by her much loved grandsons, Brent and David DuBois, Calgary; by sisters, Ethel Mae (Carman) Demarco and Bernice Devoe, Sydney Mines, and Carolyn (John) Farrell, Ontario; brother, Elijah (Fran) Slade, Ontario; and many well loved nieces and nephews.
Florence was predeceased by sisters, Molly Arsenault, Margaret Cameron, Ruby MacDougall and brothers, George, Lawrence, Rayfield, and Major Slade.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday April 2, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, April 3 from 2- 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. A reception will follow. Burial to take place at a later date.
