O'CONNOR, EUGENE - Eugene “Gene” O’Connor, loving husband of Barbara Ann (Herrington) O’Connor passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1941 in Sussex, NB he was the son of the late Leo and Mary Evelyn (Mahoney) O’Connor. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Gerard O’Connor. Gene was a Pipefitter for Local 213, and for over 20 years was the previous owner and operator of the Grove Lounge on Golden Grove Road. He was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Hall of Fame in 1997. Gene was very active in the Catholic Church and was passionate about his music. Besides his loving wife of 40 years, Barby, he is survived by his children Cassandra O’Connor (Leonard Carroll) of Saint John, Christopher O’Connor of Surrey, BC and Barby-Jo O’Connor (Robert Oliver) of Fort McMurray, AB; grandchildren Serena Bell (James), Cohen O’Connor, Ryan, Justin, Michael, Shadana and Shalissa O’Connor, great grandchildren Rheilly and Molly Bell; brother Eldon O’Connor (Diane) of Saint John; sisters Helen O’Connor of Saint John and Marilyn “Lynn” Bryan of White Rock, BC; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 12:10 p.m. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
