
David Grose
GROSE, DAVID - David Melven Grose, 90, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2013 in Maplestone Enhanced Care in Halifax with his wife Bernice and daughter Kathy at his bedside. Born in Winnipeg, MB, he was the eldest son of the late Melven H. and Jean N. (Boyle) Grose. A graduate from United College (now University of Winnipeg) with a BA in 1948 then went to the University of Westin Ontario for Business Administration. During those summers, he spent time at Lake Louise waiting tables until he joined the army. He was employed with the T.Eaton Co. in Toronto in 1949 as personnel manager, then transferred to Moncton, NB in 1961 to head up the District personnel department until the closure of the catalogue division when he was transferred to Halifax. He was a past president of the Moncton YMCA 1971-72 and a member of the St. James Masonic Lodge for 40 years. He joined Gyro’s in Halifax and was a past president and district Governor. He was an avid reader, enjoyed music and could be found during the summer at his cottage in Cape Brule, NB where he enjoyed blueberry picking and gardening. He is survived by his wife M. Bernice (Campbell) of Halifax, daughters Kathy Grose (Halifax) and Dorothy Gartshore, son-in-law Neil Gartshore (Oakville ON) and son David Grose (Guelph, ON) along with grandsons Kyle and Matthew Gartshore, brother James (Ernistine) Grose (Winnipeg, MB) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Betty (Orton) and brother Gerald Grose.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Maplestone Enhanced Care Nursing Facility for their care and kindness over the last nine years. Cremation has taken place.
