John Angus Murphy
Born In: North Sydney
Passed on: April 1st, 2013
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, John Murphy, on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of Mary (MacNeil) Murphy and the late Burton Louis Murphy.
John grew up in the community of Florence and was a resident of Kanata, Ontario for the past 13 years. John graduated from Memorial High School in 1994 and from Cape Breton University in 2000. John began work right after graduation with Citizenship and Immigration Canada in Ottawa, as an IT System Administrator. Until the end, John remained a valuable and dedicated member of the team.
John loved greatly, lived simply and always looked forward to family gatherings in Cape Breton and spending time with his friends.
John’s motto of putting your energies towards things that will move you upwards rather than just settling is something he has instilled in each of us. John’s kind and generous heart combined with his courage is the foundation of integrity for which we admire in him.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Murphy of Florence; his sisters, Bernadette (Charlie) Johnson, Sydney Mines, Diane, Florence; his brothers, Lewis (Lisa) Murphy, Halifax, Wayne (Pat) Rendell, Edmonton; his four nephews, Tyler and Nick Johnson, Avery and Alex Rendell and his stepmother, Betty Rendell of Florence.
Besides his dad, John was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Eunice Murphy and maternal grandparents, Russell and Sadie MacNeil.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
