William Lamont
With deep sorrow we announce the passing of William Lamont. Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in November, Bill fought hard with great courage for three months before passing away at the Lillooet District Hospital with family at his side.
Bill was born and grew up in Vancouver BC and was the eldest of three children. He had a larger than life personality and many friends. He and his brother Ross played the Bagpipes while their little sister Beverly Highland danced and they spent many summers in competitions at Highland Games.
Bill attended Simon Fraser University where he studied Forestry and in 1972 he worked in reforestation out of a Vancouver office. While attending University, Bill was one of the founders of the Simon Fraser Pipe Band. Later that year he moved to Tatla Lake in the Chilcotin where he spent many years as Assistant Ranger.
In 1977, Bill settled in Lillooet where he built a beautiful log home and raised his family. He was a dedicated Forest Service employee who worked in both the Range Management and the Protection Branch.
In his retirement years, Bill lived in Tulameen where he had spent much of his childhood summers and had a family cabin. He lived on and managed the gun range in Tulameen. Bill was always happy when outside and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He could been seen many days driving through Tulameen in his beautiful 1947 Ford with his loyal Border Collie in the passenger seat. During his illness, Bill came to stay with his family and enjoyed the company of his grandchildren. He cherished time with family and friends.
Bill is survived by his bother Ross Lamont (Donna) of Merritt, sister Beverly Hughes (Earl) of Burns Lake, daughter Ailsa Wolfe (Sunni) of Lillooet, son William Lamont (Shy-Anne) of Quilchena and girlfriend Sharon Van of Kamloops, as well as five grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life was held on March 23, 2013 in Tulameen at the Community Hall at 1:00 PM.
