It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John ‘Brud’ Penney on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Kennedy) Penney.
Brud lived for his family. He was affectionately known as Gran by everyone. No matter what his children or grandchildren were doing he wanted to be involved and support them. He took much pleasure in going to town and visiting his friends. Whether it was work or leisure Gran did everything with love and passion. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a kind and loving man, who put others before himself. He worked for 38 years with Devco in mines 12, 20 and 26. For his last 10 years with Devco he worked security and enjoyed every minute of it.
Brud is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Florence Campbell ‘Fin’; one daughter, Cathy (Danny) LeForte; one son, Ronnie; special nephew, Jerry (Kay) Penney; grandchildren, Cheryl (Craig), Dale, Brad, Kendra, Courtney; one brother, Greg (Viola), USA; his best buddy, Duke; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Jerry and Fins Joey.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 7 from 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass celebrating Brud’s life will be on Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church. The Rev Leo Boone will be officiating.
