
John H MacNutt
MacNUTT, John H. – 92, Truro, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, April 4, 2013, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born November 18, 1920, in Trenton, Pictou County, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret (MacLeod) MacNutt. In 1946, John was married in Halifax to his beloved wife, Barbara (Allen), and they moved to Truro in 1950 where they owned and operated MacNutt’s Superette until 1973 at which time he joined Nova Scotia Trust Co. as a real estate salesman. He received several awards for highest sales until he retired in 1982. His retirement years were spent gardening and hobby woodworking. He and Barbara spent 17 winters in Florida where they took part in golf, comedy shows and stage performances. He was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed most card games. Retirement was a word John didn’t pay much attention to for at age 89, he began knitting scarves and at age 90 made dishcloths and marmalade for sale. His marmalade is well known around Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada. He was a loyal member of Brunswick Street United Church where he served on several Boards and was General Chairman when the present church was built. John served a term as Sunday school teacher and was a choir member for 30 years. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the K40 Club and a former member of Truro Kinsmen Club. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always had an ear for humourous stories. His last few years were spent at Parkland Estates where he met so many new friends that he became close to. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara; sister, Frances MacDonald. John is survived by his children, Allen (Linda), Truro; John (Debbie), Edmonton, Alberta; Beverley (Keith) Snowdon, Bible Hill; Vicki (Bruce) Pate, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren. He was a wonderful family man and especially loved his grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where John’s family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013, and funeral service 1 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013. Reception will follow. Interment in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Alma, Pictou County. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in John’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
