We would like to announce the passing of Cecil Campbell on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Murdock and Annie (Lewis) Campbell.
Cecil was the last remaining of his immediate family.
Cecil worked over 30 years for the Cape Breton Post as a printer. He moved on from there and began working for the Cape Breton School Board. He became the janitor at the Sydney River Elementary School until his retirement.
Cecil is survived by his daughter, Valerie Sampson (Robert Martin) and two sons, Cecil ‘Chum’ (Pauline) and Allison (Mae), all of Sydney; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as a very special sister-in-law, Lily Campbell.
Cecil was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruby (Reid), his eldest son, Jim (Terry), sisters, Marion Gentile (Humbert), Margie Clements (Henry), Ivy Morrison (Duncan), Francie Christie (Clifton), his only brother and greatest friend, Douglas ‘Doug’ Campbell.
The family would like to thank Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility (Mira Bay) for taking excellent care of Cecil, and we would also like to thank the Dr. Naeem, the doctors and nurses of the CBRH for helping Cecil pass peacefully.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow.
