Judith “Judi” Atwell Munro - 67, of Black River, died peacefully on the morning of April 11th, 2013, after battling cancer. Judi was born in Wolfville, 1946, to Percy and Mildred Atwell. She grew up in Black River, spending her childhood surrounded by the love of her parents, sisters Connie, Jackie and Dianne, half sisters Helen and Ethel, and her many friends. In 1966, Judi married the love of her life, Perry Munro, and they built a life together with their four children fueled by big dreams, and lots of love. Judi was an artist and writer. Her love of the natural world, gardens, home and family inspired her work. She took great pleasure in her horses, letting her rides through the woods and her evenings in the barn bring a gentle peace to her life. Judi took great pride and pleasure in her family, her home, and her community. Judi worked at Acadia University for many years and greatly enjoyed the people who shared her work life. Every spring, she and Perry created a springtime celebration of maple syrup, pancakes, sleigh rides and music. This brought many people of all walks joyfully out of the fog of winter and into the sweet taste of springtime. Judi is survived by her husband of 47 years, Perry Munro and her children, Todd Munro, Kathleen (Mark) Munro Pennell, Sara (Eamon) Munro Clancey and Shawn (Natasha) Munro, and her much loved grandchildren, Tristan Pennell, Cohen Munro, Max Pennell, Sage Munro and Alice Clancey. She is survived also by her sisters Connie Hudson and Dianne Allen, her half sisters Helen Levy and Ethel Lake, and is predeceased by her sister Jackie Clifford. Judi also leaves behind many friends, who certainly felt like family over the years, and a community she was proud to call home. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. A celebration of Judi’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Black River Cemetery, Reverend Mark Shaw officiating.
