KINGHORNE, LAWSON GUY MELBOURE - 1933 - 2013 - Captain Lawson G. M. Kinghorne of North Head, Grand Manan Island, NB passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital Friday, April 12, 2013. He was born at North Head, Grand Manan Island, the son of the late George and Helen Maude (Urquhart) Kinghorne. Lawson was a Captain of several fishing vessels and the founder of Special “K” Fisheries Ltd. During his career at sea, Lawson was very successful as a lobster fisherman, ground fisherman, weir fisherman for herring, picked dulse and his passion in fishing was dragging for scallop. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Mrs. Ethel (Griffin) Kinghorne. His two daughters; Sharon (Claude) Ingalls, and Toby Lambert. Three sons Sherman (Heather) Kinghorne, Eugene (Juliet) Kinghorne, and Gordon Kinghorne (Mike Duern). Eighteen Grand Children, twenty Great Grand Children, his one sister Thelma Kinghorne of Saint John, several nieces, nephews and his best friend Skipper. Lawson was predeceased by one son Roger Kinghorne (2011), one sister Laura Denton and one brother Ronald Kinghorne.
Visiting hours will be held at Ells Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place from the North Head Wesleyan Church on Monday, April 15,2013 at 1:00pm with Rev. Jasper Rideout officiating. Lawson’s family has requested donations may be made to The NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Charlotte County Cancer Society.
