Menno Visser – 84, of Berwick, formerly of Grafton, Kings County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Paessens, Friesland, The Netherlands, he was a son of the late William and Doetje “Doreen” (Elzinga) Visser. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and devoted his life to farming and trading dairy cattle. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine (Tammes); a son, Winston (Brenda); four grandchildren, Louisa, Caleb, Oriana and Seth; four sisters, Ann Kamphuis, Hilden; Gerrie Van Meekeren, New Minas; Helen (Jacob) Hartenhof, Coldbrook; Frances Fam, Scarborough, Ontario; four brothers, Nico Visser, Waterville; Jacob (Gonda) Visser, Orwell Cove, Prince Edward Island; Leo (Alice) Visser, Barrie, Ontario; Dirk (Barbara) Visser, Cambridge Station; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Tena Hengeveld and a brother, Gerrit Visser. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville, Pastor Bert VanderBeek officiating. Burial took place in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
