The death occurred peacefully, with his family by his side, of Ervin J. Rafferty at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, April 13, 2013, husband of the late Mary (Kelly) Rafferty. Ervin was born at Woodbrook, PEI, on Oct. 27, 1922, son of the late Raymond and Lena (MacFadyen) Rafferty. A veteran of World War II, Ervin enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1942, with the North Nova Scotia Highland Regiment, and served overseas in England, France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and North Africa. After World War II, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. His military and civilian service with the Department of National Defence totalled 36 years. Cherished father to Susan Flynn, Vancouver, B.C., and Jeannie (Terry) Odell, Trenton, Ont., and father-in-law to Wilmalee Rudy, Frankford, Ont. Loving grandfather to Angela, Adrian, Shileen, Creenagh, Charles (CJ), Sean and Shane.
Great-grandfather to Shannon, Emily, Evan and Sean. Survived by the following brothers and sisters: Don of Woodbrook; Joyce (Wendell) Bridges, Richmond; Clarence (Anne), Toronto, Ont.; Ronald, Nfld.; Norbert (Eileen) Summerside; and Mollie Rafferty, Woodbrook. Brother-in-law of Florence (Leonard) McNeill, Miscouche; Marion Kelly, St. Eleanors; Everett McNally, Woodbrook; Susan Rafferty, Woodbrook; Reby Bulger, Foxley Rover; Mary (Wayne) MacLellan, Miscouche; Dorothy Jones, Charlottetown; Allan Kelly, Lloyd (Karen) Kelly, Foxley River. Predeceased by his parents, dear wife Mary (Kelly) Rafferty and his son David, Frankford, Ont. Also predeceased by his brothers: George, Edward (Bud), Alvin, Gerald, Walter, his sister Elaine and brothers and sisters-in-law: Theresa (Tess) Rafferty, Edith Rafferty, Linus Bulger, Myra Kelly, Everett and Margaret Kelly, Emmett Kelly, Francis, Hillard and Kathleen Kelly. Resting at the Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O'Leary, with visiting hours Tuesday, April 16, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday until 9:45 a.m. then to St. Brigid¹s Roman Catholic Church, Foxley River, for funeral service at 10:30 a.m.
Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Comrades of the Ellerslie Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service of remembrance for their late Comrade on Tuesday evening at 6:45 p.m. In memory of Ervin, memorials to the St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery or O'Leary Association of Community Living would be appreciated.
