Edward Perkins
PERKINS, EDWARD LEONARD - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edward (Ed) Leonard Perkins of Saint John West, who passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 17, 2013. Born in Saint John on May 6, 1928, he was a son of Harry and Martha (Lomax) Perkins. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Charles Perkins, and sisters Maude O’Brien and Alice Bryant and niece Lynn Perkins. Ed is survived by his loving wife Helen (Matheson), daughter Donna, son David (Cindy), and grandson Bruce. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Jim Matheson (Joyce), George Matheson (Barb), as well as several nieces and nephews. Ed retired from Moosehead Breweries where he was employed for 33 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp. In his younger years Ed was a well-known hockey player who played for a variety of regional hockey teams including the Miramichi Beavers and the Truro Bearcats. He was also a member of the Saint John Beavers who were the 1952-53 Maritime Senior Hockey Champions. The team was inducted into the Saint John Sports’ Hall of Fame. The family would like to extend their thanks to doctors Corless and Douglas, as well as Caroline and the nurses at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm. The memorial service will be held at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 22, at 1 pm with a reception to follow.
