WILSON, Marion Rosamond “Rossie” - 88, Truro, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Apple pie with a slice of cheese. Just one of Rossie’s interesting customs. Born and raised in Margaree, Marion Rosamond Wilson was one of 10 children. Working on the farm, she learned early on the lessons she carried through her whole life: resourcefulness, industriousness and the importance of family. She was devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Loving and benevolent, resilient and tenacious, most of us knew there were two ways of doing things - Nan’s way or the wrong way. Rossie married Vernon in 1944 and supported him as he built Wilson Equipment from the ground up in Truro, N.S. After his sudden passing in 1975, Rossie immersed herself in her community. Rossie became part of the very fabric of her town. She was the first female golfer in Truro to record a hole-in-one. Whether you were a United Church member, a business owner, or simply a neighbour who greeted her on her daily walk, you knew Rossie. Later in life, illness began to take its toll, eroding her independence. True to form, she fought to maintain her autonomous lifestyle. I can still hear her protests of, “I can do it!” while cradling her broken wrist in a sling, hovering as I assembled a chicken sandwich (her favourite). Macular degeneration, stroke and dementia may have taken her body and mind, but her “will” remained strong, fighting to stay with us as long as she could. Rossie was the last to ever ask for help, the first on your doorstep in a time of need to offer help, apple pie in hand. With cheese, of Course. Thanks Nan, we will miss you. Rossie is survived by her son, V. Graham Wilson (Linda Landymore), Windsor; daughter, Brenda (Peter) Phipps, Gaspereau; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as siblings, Lila MacPhee, Brookfield; Yvonne Lyons, Sydney; Harry Ethridge, Middle River; Abbie Ingraham, Truro; Anne Baxter, Antigonish and Rena Jelic, Coquitlam, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon G. Wilson; sisters, Sally and Josephine; and brother, Tom. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 19, in Hensley Memorial Chapel, King's - Edgehill Lane, Windsor, the Rev. Gordon Delaney officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be held at a later date in Brookfield Westside Cemetery.
