Virginia Eidt Allen, 86, of Wolfville, Kings County, formerly of Sydney, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at home.
Born in Virginia on July 12, 1926, she was the daughter of Cecil and Millie Eidt. The family moved to the Annapolis Valley in 1930. Virginia graduated from Kings County Academy in 1944 and from the Saint John Hospital School of Nursing in 1948, where she met her husband of 64 years, Lloyd. Together they lived in Hatfield Point, N.B.; Montreal, Que. and Sydney, Cape Breton, while raising four sons. They later retired to Wolfville in 1997.
She was a supporter of Lloyd through his busy medical practice and became a master of all trades. She devoted many hours to community affairs, promoting art in the school system, her church, the IODE and being a volunteer for various charities. She enjoyed her many friends, golf, curling and especially the “Bridge Club Girls” in Cape Breton. After 41 years it was hard to leave the beautiful Mira River, where they spent so many happy hours with friends and family. Virginia was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate Eidt family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd; her sons, Douglas (Leslie Dixon), Halifax; James (Judy), Berwick; David (Ronda), Bedford and Paul (Gina Gruz), Truro; grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Jacqueline, James, Kathleen, Robert, Holly, Brandon and Amelia. She will also be sadly missed by special friend, Nell Wright, Ontario.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wilfrid, Douglas and Cecil Eidt.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service, followed by a reception will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in Orchard Valley United Church, Wolfville (St. Andrew’s United Church), Rev.
