Sidney 'Sid' MacPherson

Sid MacPherson, age 72 of Dorchester Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Sand Lake, he was the son of the late Gussie and Janie (MacIntosh) MacPherson.
Sid was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay. He was a fisherman for 50 years and belonged to the Maritime Fisherman’s Union. Sid was also a member of the Port Morien Wildlife Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing bingo at the Port Morien Legion. He will be remembered for his witty and compassionate personality.
Sid is survived by his two daughters, Laurie (Danny), Margaree, Laurel (Eric), Glace Bay; one son, Stewart (Rhonda), Wadden’s Cove, who was also his fishing partner; one brother, Matt (Margie); three sisters, Gert Phalen, Lea Woolman (Don), all in Ontario and Effie Young, Glace Bay.
Sid is survived by five grandchildren, Beth, Shaun and his wife, Kara, Warren, Haley, Whitney and one great-grandchild, Alison.
He was predeceased by his wife, Genevieve (Boutilier) MacPherson in 2007; three brothers, Earl, Harold ‘Buck’, George and a sister, Willeana.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. John Finlayson is Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
As an expression of sympathy for Sid, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Port Morien Wildlife Association.
