Garnet Carlos Read, 80, passed away in Truro, NS, on December 13, 2012.
He was born on February 21, 1932 in Fenwick, NS, the son of the late Carlos & Lillian
(Smith) Read. He lived & worked in Fort Lawrence, NS, and Middle Musquodoboit, NS.
He is survived by his second wife, Elaine (Hartlen) Read, Brookfield, NS; daughter,
Mary Louise (Moe), Westlock, AB: sons, Smith (Evelyn), Cornation, AB;
Philip (Brenda), Athabasca, AB; Jonathan (Gay), Slave Lake, AB: Jamie (Paula) Canyon Creek, AB;
Jay (Roberta), Upper Musquodoboit, NS, and his stepmother, Pauline (Ripley) Read, Amherst, NS,
Surviving grandchildren are: Shawn, Alexis, Seamus, Carlos, Jennifer, Kelsey, Jensen, Andrew,
Christopher, Nicholas, Emma, Dominick and Jesse, as well as a chosen greatgrandson, Liam.
Surviving siblings are Iona, Amherst, NS; Shirley, Truro, NS; Douglas (Shirley), Amherst, NS;
Vivian (Sonny), Nappan, NS; Edwin (Gwen), Blind River, ON; Barbara (Austin), Sackville, NB;
Dorothy (Bob), Fenwick, NS; Althea (Rick), Onslow, NS; Catherine (Ken), Springhill, NS.
Garnet is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn (Copp) Read
(mother of Smith, Mary & Philip) in 1965; an infant brother, Lloyd, in 1933; a sister, Elaine,
in 1999 and a grandson, Tyler, (son of Phil & Brenda Read) in 2007.
Cremation took place in December 2012 under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Co-operative
of Middle Musquodoboit, NS. A graveside service will take place at the Fenwick Cemetery, NS,
on May 18, 2013 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Fenwick United Church basement.
