Edith Caroline Lang - 88, formerly of Port Williams, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born on August 22, 1924 in Walton, Hants County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (Smith) Geitzler. In addition to being a full time Mom, she had worked as a secretary for various groups: Walton Gypsum, LE Shaw Brick, The Royal Bank and during the 70’s and early 80’s as the school secretary at Glooscap Elementary School in Canning. She was an active member and supporter of the Port Williams Baptist Church, the Port Williams Woman’s Institute and for a time served as secretary for the Kings local VON. She was a past member of the Wolfville Curling Club. An avid sports fan and devoted Mom, she earned the nick name of the “Horton Taxi” driving her children and their friends to numerous sporting events during their high school years. Her hobbies included knitting for her grandchildren, watching the Blue Jays and Curling on TV. She loved playing cards, especially 45’s. Edith raised her family in the village of Port Williams (1960 -1981) where she was very active in the community. In 1982 she and her husband Bill, retired and moved to Blomidon. Here they became regular members of the Pereau Baptist Church and were loyal patrons of the annual Pereau Strawberry Suppers. They also enjoyed life gardening and growing vegetables in the warm months. In the Winter, they would commute to Florida and spend time with their snow bird friends. In later years she and Bill returned to the village of Port Williams to be closer to family and friends. She had been a resident of Evergreen Home for Special Care for the past year and a half. She is survived by four children: Peter, Port Williams; Wendy (Donald Caldwell), Pasadena Ca; David (Karen Lycan), Port Williams and Mary Beth (Dwight Millett), Port Williams; eight grandchildren: Ashley (Randy) McKay, Ottawa; Serenity and Caetlyn Caldwell, Pasadena Ca; Ethan and Sarah Lycan-Lang, Port Williams; Vanessa Millett, Halls Harbour; Kristen (David Lomas, partner) Millett, Parry Sound; Shanea Millett, Chester and great-granddaughter, Ava McKay, Ottawa. She was predeceased by her husband, William; four brothers, Lee, Loran, Albert and Eric Geitzler. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in the Port Williams Baptist Church. Burial took place in the Berwick Cemetery. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all her care givers at Evergreen for their love and the attention given to her during her stay with them. Your kindness meant so much to her and us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Canadian Diabetes Association or the Port Williams Baptist Church.
