It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary Belle Brown age 98 of Glace Bay. Mary Belle passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 12, 1914 in Stellarton, Mary Belle was the daughter of the late John and Hilda (Horton) McKay. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing 45's and going to the casino. Mary “B”, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was very family oriented and loved them dearly.
Mary “B” will be sadly missed by her daughters, Louise Mackie (with whom she resided), Diane (David) MacDonald, Fall River; sons, Charles Edward (Rita), Oromocto, N.B., Jack (Pamela), Kitchener, Ont., Owen (Nancy), Dartmouth; a very special granddaughter, Sherry McIlroy and great granddaughter, Sidney McIlroy, who Mary “B” also resided with. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Brown.
There will be no visitation for Mary “B”. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton with her loving husband, Charles.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary “B”'s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
