Carleton 'Monty' Briggett
Born: November 6th, 1936
Passed on: May 4th, 2013
With heavy hearts we, the family, announce the passing of our father, grandpa and brother, Monty Briggett (Carleton Lamont) of Ross Ferry, Victoria County, Nova Scotia at the age of 76 years, on Saturday. May 4, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born on the Meadow Road, North River Bridge on November 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Peter and Sarah Briggett. He was a member of Drummond United Church, Ross Ferry.
He spent his early years working in the logging industry and fishing the North River. He spent time on the Great Lakes and lived in Ontario for a number of years. He returned to Ross Ferry and worked with the Dept. of Transportation until his retirement.
Monty was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many days stomping the wooded areas of North River and Boularderie Island, and he had many fish stories to tell of the adventures enjoyed by he and his friends Peter Harrison and JC MacDonald while 'out the river'. He enjoyed when friends dropped in for a cup of tea, and was very happy when his family came home for a visit. At times he could be coaxed into a tune on his harmonica, and sometimes even a Gaelic song. He enjoyed many trips to Ontario to visit his children and grandchildren, but was always happiest sitting at his kitchen table in Ross Ferry.
Monty is survived by his three children, Brian (Anna), Brockville, Ontario; Clayton (Debbie), Kitchener, Ontario; Arlene MacLeod (Donnie), Brampton, Ontario; his five grandchildren, Matthew MacLeod (Maja), Mississauga, Ontario; Colton MacLeod, Barrie, Ontario; Carson Briggett, Toronto, Ontario; Christopher MacDonald, Brockville, Ontario; Tamara Deines (Trevor), Kemptville, Ontario; and three great-grandchildren, Eva Deines, Kailyn Roy and Blake Wilson. He is also survived by two sisters, Martha Clarke, North Sydney; Maisie MacLeod (Cleveland), Sydney, Nova Scotia and one brother, Abraham, Sydney Forks, Nova Scotia. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and Monty's close friend, Angus MacLeod of Big Bras d'Or.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Sarah Briggett, Meadow Road, North River Bridge, a brother, Douglas, by his children's mother, Sandra (MacKenzie) MacAskill and a sister-in-law, Theresa Briggett.
Visitation for Monty Briggett will be held today (Monday) May 6, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Drummond United Church, Ross Ferry, with Diane Kempt DLM officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
Donations and in memoriams in Monty's memory may be made to Drummond United Church or the Ross Ferry Marine Park.
