Conrad Soucy
SOUCY, CONRAD JOSEPH "CAL" - It is with great sadness the family announce the death of Conrad Soucy of Saint John who passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Sunday May 19, 2013. Born January of 1930 in Claire, NB, he was the son of the late Denis and Azilda Soucy. He was a proud iron worker and worked for over 50 years at Local 842. Conrad was called upon many times to figure out a puzzle of construction which others couldn't. In his humble way he would find a safe, timely solution and for this he was well-liked and respected in his craft. A major passion in his youth was racing sailboats with his best friend, Reggie Brown. In the '40s and mid '50s, they would confound rivals on the difficult Saint John to Digby (and back, finishing by sailing up the reversing falls), winning 10 years out of 11. Conrad enjoyed gardening a large plot which often fed the many friends who visited. In his later years he went to bingo with his beloved wife and best friend. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Hermine (Blanchard) Soucy; sons, Gary (Cherie) of Saint John and Steve of Grove Hill; daughter, Rose (Dave Hayes) of Kelowna, BC; sisters, Shirley Stowe (Ed) of California and Germaine McKinney and Anne Marie Bell, both of Ontario; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Conrad was predeceased by his sons, Michael and Daniel; grandson, Clayton; and two brothers, Fred and Jackie.
Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2422) with visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A private family funeral and interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Conrad's memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit as a thanks to the caring staff.
