It is with sadness and great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, nanna, zia and niece, Carmela Vetere.

She will be forever missed by her husband of 52 years Fortunato Vetere. Also mourning her loss are daughters Josie (Paul) Fischer, Lucy Vetere; son Joe Vetere (Kari Kozak) and the light of her life, grandson Noah Fischer. She will be missed by numerous relatives, dear friends and her 'little sweetheart' Obi.

Carmela was predeceased by her father Pasquale Fontana, mother Rosa Fontana and brother Francesco Fontana.

Born in Grimaldi, Consenza, Calabria, Italy on February 24, 1938, Carmela met her "Buffone" Fortunato in October 1961. They were married after a short courtship in December of that same year. She then joined him in Canada on December 17, 1963.

She worked for a very brief time at the Whiteway Cleaners, but after starting her family she knew that she wanted to be at home raising her three small children. Her home was her biggest joy, a gathering place for everyone. She was happiest when surrounded by family, nieces, nephews and friends enjoying one another. She was a caring and devoted lady who always wore a smile on her face. She was a confidant, a best friend and gentle soul who saw the good in all. Her quiet demeanor underscored her love of life and special respect she had for those who were part of our immediate and extended family. She was "the Best of the Best".

We would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Kip, Dr. Conley, Dr. Michaud., to all the nurses on the Renal Unit who took special care of our mother, and for allowing us her family "and Entourage" to be their supporting her every step of the way. Words cannot express our gratitude.

Prayers will be recited on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Peter Nguyen will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
