John 'Jack' MacKinnon

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, brother and friend, Jack MacKinnon, on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Long Island, he was the son of the late Mary Ann MacKinnon.
Jack worked Marine Atlantic first as a stevedore and later as an engine room assistant, aboard the vessels, until his retirement.
Jack was a quiet, family man, who enjoyed spending time with his family in Long Island and cheering for “The Leafs” and “Blue Jays”. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his two sons, Paul, Halifax and Danny at home; his brothers, Joe (Shelly) Barrie, North Sydney, Anthony (Joyce) Barrie, Ontario and Danny Barrie, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his aunt, Katie Mae MacKinnon and uncles, Johnny, Dan and Mickey MacKinnon.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill, officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
