Peacefully, after a long illness at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, of Barbara Ann (Sumner-Gillespie) Pendergast of Indian River, aged 79 years. Born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on March 25, 1929, daughter of the late Albert and Marguerite (Nolan) Sumner. Wife of the late William L. (Bill) Pendergast and the late Edward A. Gillespie. Beloved mother of Deborah (George) Grecco of Greenwood, South Carolina; Michael (Maribelisa) Gillespie of Boston, Massachusetts; (Edward Gillespie Jr., deceased), also survived by daughter-in-law Karen Giffune. Stepmother of Maureen Pendergast (Sharon Pchajek); Theresa Pendergast and Karen (Joe) Hetzel. Loving grandmother to Paul Gillespie (Shani Gavin), Bryan, Belisi and Brandi Gillespie. Great-grandmother to Brayden James Gillespie. Step-grandmother to Ian and Andrew Hetzel. Sister of Frances (late Duncan) MacLean, Elizabeth (Norman) Byrnes, Marguerite (late Chick) Nichols, Annette (Frank) Coccoluto, John Roger (Winnie) Sumner and Judith Foley. Niece of Kenneth (Barbara) Sumner. Also surviving are a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home, Kensington, for visitation on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Funeral mass Saturday in St. Mary’s Church, Indian River, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
