Charlotte Jeanette Taper

It is with sadness, but with joy in a life fully lived, that the family of Charlotte Jeanette Taper announces her passing. Jeanette passed away quietly after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in the Victoria General Hospital in the presence of her family. Jeanette was born in Kingston, P.E.I. to John and Sarah (Campbell) MacFadyen. Due to the untimely death of her mother, she lived with her grandparents, Donald and Janet Campbell of Darlington and Charlottetown, P.E.I. She was a graduate of Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, and a graduate of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. She spent most of her adult life in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, where her husband, Daniel, was a professor of agriculture at McGill University (MacDonald College). In recent years, she resided in Halifax. She enjoyed walking, swimming and was a voracious reader. She was a charter member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Baie D’Urfé, Que., and a member of the Presbyterian Church of St. David, Halifax. Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Anne (Frank) Sommerville, Janette Taper; her beloved grandchildren, William and John Summerville, Charlotte and Alissa Taper, all of Halifax, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Daniel Taper; her parents; brothers Millar, Norman, Eric; sisters Rebecca, Florence DuRussel and her twin, Ena. A service of celebration will be held at the Presbyterian Church of St. David on August 7 at 2 p.m., the Rev Laurence Mawhinney officiating; reception to follow. Family flowers only. Burial to take place at a later date in People’s Cemetery, Charlottetown.Donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church of St. David or a charity of one’s choice.
