It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister and aunt, Carrie (Parsons) Cotter on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Corner Brook, N.L., on Sept. 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Bertrum and Winnifred (Pafford) Parsons.
Mom worked at Humber Pharmacy in Corner Brook in her younger years while living in Newfoundland. She worked at Peoples Store in Glace Bay and was a secretary at the Coastal Courier Newspaper until it ceased publication.
Mom loved to play Scrabble, write poetry, complete crossword puzzles and knitting several afghans and sweaters for her own girls and granddaughters.
Mom was a gentle soul, who enjoyed spending time with family especially her 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was ‘Mom’ or ‘Ma Cotter’ to a great many young people who passed through her home over the years.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Ken; children, Ken (Darlene), Sherry (Wayne) Earle, Jim (Dorothy), Sabrina (Kurt) Strong and Sheryl (Duane) Duhamel; grandchildren, John, Scott, J.F., Daniel, Stephanie, Tracy, Lori, Raynell, Shayne, Selena, Skyler, Spencer, Jillian, Jarid, Renee, Kurt and Shaelynn; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Mom is also survived by her brothers, Charles (Marie), Ed (Myra) and Bob (Marg); sisters-in-law, Ellen Parsons and Joan Parsons.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Sharon Gale Marr, brothers, Fred, Bill and only sister, Marion and brother-in-law, Gerald Walbourne. Also predeceased by Neil Joseph Scott, whom she considered one of her own.
The family will have a private visitation at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay, Friday, June 7 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
We wish to extend a thank you to all the home support workers who took such great care of Mom everyday. Thank you to the VON for their special care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.W. Home Care, VON or charity of choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.jmcurryfuneralhome.com.
“Mother - Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure ... You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
