SMITH, RALPH FREDERICK – Ralph Frederick Smith, formerly of Milledgeville and North End Saint John passed away at Kennebec Manor on June 4, 2013 after a brief illness. Ralph was born in French Village, NB the youngest son of the late Marjorie (Amburg) and Percy Smith. Ralph was a long-time member of the First Wesleyan Church on Boars Head Road. He was also a member of the Wheel Chair Club and Injured Workers Association of NB. An avid sportsman, Ralph participated in various Iron Man competitions which included Canada Games 1985, 13 Terry Fox Runs and two Rick Hansen Events (2011) as well as wheelchair skiing, basketball, sledge hockey and most recently, wheelchair curling. Every year was a new adventure for Ralph. Ralph was known to be very generous, especially to those with disabilities that needed help or encouragement. Ralph was always grateful for the staff at Brunswick Physio (north end) as he was an active member for 15 years and the coffee gang at Tim Horton’s where he met daily to have green tea. Ralph is survived by his wife Janet London-Smith; son Craig F. Smith (Annamaria Scichilone); grandson Massimo Smith; former wife Cathy (Northrup) Smith; brother Stan “Sonny” (Helen) Smith of Sussex; sisters Evellyn Peters (Peter) of Saint John, Thelma Fraser (Robert) of Smith Falls, ON and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Ralph was predeceased by young son Andrew Smith; his brother Robert Smith; sister-in-law Elizabeth "Betty" Smith and sisters Dorothy Edwards, Mandora Brown and Ruth Woods.
Following cremation, visitations will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Thursday, June 6 from 7 to 9 P.M. and Friday, June 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Celebration of Ralph’s Life will be held at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 8 at 2 p.m. Remembrances in memory of Ralph made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Ability NB, Paraplegic Association of Canada or the Saint John SPCA would be appreciated by the family. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
