Harrop, Greta Eileen, (December 9, 1920 ~ June 2, 2013). It is with a mixture of sadness and gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Greta Eileen Harrop of Truro, on June 2, 2013 in Truro. Born in Truro, Greta was the daughter of the late H. Douglas and Grace (MacNutt) White. Greta grew up in Truro surrounded by her extended family. Family and faith formed the foundation on which Greta would build her long and healthy life. She met her husband Edgar Harrop, as a young girl summering at Lake Kinsac. They married on December 27, 1941, and Greta joined Edgar in Newfoundland where he was posted with the Canadian Armed Forces. Greta graduated from Sydney City Hospital and nursed in Newfoundland and Truro. Greta’s greatest joy came from her family. She and Edgar had 2 daughters, Lynne (Mrs. Phillip Stead) and Shelley (Mrs. Trent Morrisey); 2 granddaughters, Debby Stead (Mrs. Brian Frizzell) and Barbara Stead (Mrs. Sean Coyle); 3 grandsons, Matthew, Patrick, and Benjamin Morrisey; 3 great granddaughters, Ashley Frizzell, Caroline and Marianne Coyle. Greta loved reading, crossword puzzles, music and anything pink. She spent many days in her backyard enjoying the sunshine and the latest book from the library. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Edgar; her brother, Douglas; sister-in-law, Julia (Allen) White; her son-in-law, Phillip. A celebration of Greta’s life will be held 2pm Sunday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church, Truro, with The Reverend Dr. Frank Guinta Jr. officiating.
