MacDONALD, PATRICIA - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia MacDonald, of Fredericton, NB on Friday, June 7th, 2013 at the age of 73. Patricia is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles, her children; Karen Dutcher (Lloyd) and Ian MacDonald of Toronto, Charles’ daughter Lynn Marie LaGrange (Rod) and family of Edmonton, sisters-in-law E. Jane Cassidy of Moncton, Jean Toft of Fredericton; nephew Gary Toft of Ottawa, niece Patti-Leigh Toft of Fredericton and special niece Debbie Cassidy of Moncton; five grandchildren, Savannah Dutcher (Jay Wood) of Edmonton and Chelsy Bowie (Scott) of Maugerville, Asher, Delaney and Tyson all of Edmonton, two great grandchildren Charly and Bryson of Edmonton; as well as special friends Heather (Hughson) Schwartzkopf and Louise Barton. Pat is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Mabel (Edwards) Toft, as well as her brother Gerry Toft, and brother in law Fred Cassidy of Moncton. Pat graduated from Fredericton High School in 1958 and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1962. She was a registered nurse working at the Victoria Public Hospital, and Operating Room of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital until her retirement in 1999. She continued her association with the DECH by volunteering in the coffee shop for many years after. Pat was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and extremely active in various United Church Women units. She also organized a branch of the Red Hat Society, as well as being a member of the Lower St. Mary’s Women’s Institute. She loved gardening, cooking, and crafts such as ceramics and cross-stitch. She also enjoyed watching sports from golf to rooting for the Jays, as well as travelling to visit friends and her children in Florida and Toronto. She also loved her frequent reunion dinners with fellow nurses and FHS grads. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pat and Charles Scholarship Fund at UNB or the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on Sunday, June 9th 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Church on Monday, June 10th, at 2 PM with Rev. H. Gil MacKenzie officiating, with a reception to follow in the Fraser Memorial Hall.
