Ella Beatrice Stoddard

STODDARD, Ella Beatrice – 86, Truro, went home to be reunited with her husband, Cleve, on Friday evening, June 7, 2013, at Northwood Manor, while being held in the arms of her daughter, Brenda, and son-in-law, Joe. Born January 13, 1927, in Port Morien, Cape Breton, she was the eldest child of the late William and Blanche (Brann) Murrant. Ella was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was a life member of the Missionary Unit, the Evelyn Gullison Group and served as greeter at the door on various Sunday mornings. Ella was always proud of her “Cape Breton roots” and her visits “down home” were some of her happiest times. These visits brought out her mischievous smile and twinkling eyes. A homemaker extraordinaire, she took great pride in everything she did from cooking, cleaning and baking. Her peanut butter cookies were a hit with her grandchildren and she hosted many boarders and was the organizer behind Dad’s Fuller Brush Business. In recent years, Ella moved to Dartmouth to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Life was never quite the same without Dad and now they are together again. Ella is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Joe) Maloney, Cole Harbour; granddaughter, Heather White, Cole Harbour; grandson, Paul (Ashley) Anderson, Musquodoboit Harbour; great granddaughter, Avery Anderson; great grandsons, Mason Anderson, Liam White; step grandchildren, Joey and Melissa Maloney; sister, Joyce (Albert) Hooper, Glace Bay; brothers, Stanley Murrant, Port Morien; Edward (Blanche) Murrant, Glace Bay; Nelson (Sandra) Murrant, Port Morien; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cleveland Lindsay Stoddard; brother, Jimmy Murrant; grandson, Blair Anderson in infancy. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff on Northwood, First Floor Centre, for their care and compassion shown to our family. Thanks also to the staff at Dartmouth General Hospital for their support and Reverend Dr. Susan MacAlpine-Gillis, Stew Clarke and the ministerial team at Cole Harbour – Woodside United Church for their comfort and caring of Christ. Ella’s family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m., - 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 295 Young Street, Truro, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Reverend Cory Somers and Reverend Kaj Binderup officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ella’s memory to Northwood Foundation or a charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
