Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: June 18th, 2013
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, Robert ‘Bob’ Edward Hiscock on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
For the last five months Bob was a resident of Taigh Na Mara. He served many years in the RCAF and moved to Cape Breton in the 1980s, where he started a small refrigeration and AC repair service.
Born in Catalina, Nfld., he was the son of the late Irene (House) and Robert J. Hiscock. He spent a lot of time visiting his home and relatives in Newfoundland.
He eventually went to live on the Mira which he enjoyed so much. He loved hiking, walking, boating and was a self-taught painter. He was a very quite and peaceful man who enjoyed having friends around. He loved listening to Celtic Serenade on Saturday nights.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Steven Lundrigen, brothers-in-law, John Lundrigen and John Stagg, all of Newfoundland.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol (Gillard); daughters, Joanne and David Blight, Carolyn and Joseph Sobkowich, grandsons, Alexander and MacKenzie Blight and Dimitrius Sobkowich, all of Dartmouth; sisters, Nancy Lundrigen, Bay Bulls, and Pat Stagg, Little Catalina, N.L.; many nieces and nephews.
In honouring Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, June 21 at 2 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Rev Vernon Reid will be officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. The interment will be at a later date.
