Sullivan, Mary Avis, 76, of Elk Court, Brookfield and formerly of Central Onslow, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Otterbrook, Colchester County, she was a daughter of the late Grant and Mary Ann (Smith) Cox. Avis was a life-long care giver and was a Registered Nurse for 37 years at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Avis always had a song to share. She loved to sing and was a member of the Happy Harmonies in her later years. Avis was full of contagious joy and abundant laughter, and always was wondering when the next party might be.
She is survived by a daughter Karen Parker (Frank) of Truro; son Roy (Holly) of Debert, John (Michelle) of Truro; grandchildren, Emily, Haley, Ben, Beth, Megan, Desiree, Shawn, Kyle; brother Neil Cox of Saskatchewan; several nieces and nephews; special friend Donnie Boomer of Truro.
She was predeceased by her husband Allan; brothers, Frank, Sidney, Roland; sisters Jean, Martha, Mable.
Visitation will be 7-9 pm Wednesday, June 26th and funeral service on Thursday, June 27th at 2:00 pm in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Larry Harrison will officiate with burial to follow in Onslow Island Cemetery, Central Onslow. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice.
