Wilma MacLean

Wilma Adelaide (MacKay) MacLean, 88 of 23 Allan Avenue, Stellarton, passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on June 24, 2013.
Wilma was born on December 6, 1924 in Thorburn, Nova Scotia. She was the fifth of six daughters born to Adrian and Sarah (MacDonald) MacKay.
She grew up in Thorburn and in her late teens moved to Stellarton to live with her sisters Sylvia and Mabel. Wilma worked for several years at MacLeod's Bakery and the OK Bakery, both then located in Stellarton.
Wilma was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Stellarton.
In August, 1947, Wilma married Bert MacLean, of New Glasgow, and they made their home in Stellarton. She lived in her house on Allan Avenue for over 53 years.
Wilma is survived by her loving daughter, Cheryl, of Truro and New Glasgow, her nieces: Pat (Jack) MacLean, Sara (Leo) Thompson, Lynn MacLean, Juanita (Norris) Frank, Sheila (Wilfred) Buchanan and Wendy Johnson and her nephews Adrian MacLean and Frank (Diane) MacLean. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Percy MacLean and his family, of Halifax and her sister-in-law Wilena Johnson of Truro.
Wilma was predeceased by her devoted husband, Bert, in January 2010. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her sisters: Thelma MacLean, Sylvia Nickerson, Mabel MacKay, Anna Lorraine “Lorrie” Harris, and Harriet “Hallie” MacInnis. She was also predeceased by her niece Joyce Nickerson in infancy.
Wilma missed her husband and sisters every day since their passing and spoke often of them all.
Wilma loved living in Stellarton and thought that there was no where else that anyone should want to live unless it was New York. She enjoyed talking to her neighbours, feeding the birds, looking after her various perennials and bushes and taking care of her home. She enjoyed doing word finds and watching the news and CNN on TV. She became a fan of “Big Bang Theory” in recent years and she and Cheryl spent many happy hours together in front of her TV. Wilma and Cheryl took several trips together over the years. She was especially happy to have visited New York, Florida, Quebec and Cape Cod. She was a wise and gentle woman with a great sense of humour. She will be deeply missed by her cat Chloe who could always expect a treat from her favourite human.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held for Wilma on Sunday, June 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, conducted by Rev. Charles McPherson of First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the funeral service, also in the funeral home. Burial will take place, following the reception, in Thorburn Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in Wilma's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, to the SPCA, or to a charity of choice.
