It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Thomas Irvine, on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Matapedia, Que., he was the son of the late Dennis and Stella (Haley) Irvine.
Thom was employed as a machinist with General Motors until his retirement.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Thom was a dedicated volunteer within the community, being an active member of the Kiwanis Ceilidh Golden K Club, Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton, Canadian Cancer Society, North Sydney Food Bank and the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Thom is survived by his wife, Emily (Musgrave) Irvine; his son, Robert and granddaughter, Melanie, both of Montreal and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Eldred, James, Dennis, Adam, Percy, Peter; sisters, Doris, Ellen, Stella, Eva and Mary, also by his daughter-in-law, Lisa Irvine.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, July 1st, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating, with reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Frenchvale.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
