New Glasgow - Robert (Bob) Alexander Miller, 80, died peacefully on June 29, 2013 after a seven-month battle with colon cancer. Born in Truro, N.S., on May 9, 1933, and raised in Merigomish, Bob was a son of the late Clifford and Margaret (Haggart) Miller. Bob was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, where he was an elder for several years. He was an employee of the Department of Highways, C.P. Smith and Company, and was self-employed for several years in the drapery business. He was predeceased in 2009 by his wife, Muriel Christine Fraser. He is survived by his four daughters, Carol Heighton (Ron Raynard), New Glasgow; Jane Miller, New Glasgow; Gail (Brian) MacDonnell, Brooklin, Ontario; Nancy (Robert) Harris, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and ten grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Benjamin, Iain, Laura, Luke, Henry, Fiona, Evelyn, and Meredith. Bob will also be greatly missed by his best friend, Jean Battist. The eldest of thirteen children, he is survived by siblings: Johnny (Carolyn) Miller, Little Harbour; David (Marcella) Miller, Merigomish; Mary Fraser, Barneys River; Norma MacPherson, Halifax; Kenny (Glenda) Miller, Merigomish; Donnie (Susan) Miller, Lower Barneys River; Wanda (Sandy) Young, Moncton, New Brunswick; Judy Miller, Dartmouth; Darlene (Brian) Stiles, New Glasgow, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Helen Miller, and brothers, Henry and Everett Miller. Bob is also survived by brother-in-law, H. Alan Fraser, Halifax. Fondly known as “Mr. Fix-It”, to his family, Bob also enjoyed walking, fishing, camping, automobiles, gardening, music, and beautiful sunsets. He was a generous blood donor to the Canadian Red Cross Society. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Tues., July 2, from 7-9 p.m. at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Wed., July 3, at 11 a.m., at Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Fred Archibald officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Park, Dr. Farrell, Rhonda Langille, VON, and palliative care nurses for their care and support.
