FOLLETT, ROLAND BLACKMORE - Dad passed from death into life on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from Bobby’s Hospice to be with the Lord whom he loved to talk about. He served for many of his adult years as an elder in his local church on Courtney Ave in East Saint John. He was a generous giver to those in need including the local Food Bank. Roland was born January of 1925 in Port Greville, NS to the late Ashford and Della (Shipley) Follette. He came to Saint John in 1942 and went to work for Simms Brush Factory rising to foreman. In 1948 he married Marion Jones of Perth Andover, NB; they went on to have three children. In 1953 they bought and started a grocery business in Fairvale. He became a Christian in 1964 and decided to make a business change at this time. Thus began Follett’s Hardware – a local institution in the area for the next 31 years. He sold the business in 1996, worked briefly for the new owner and then for a number of years for Kent’s in Saint John and Quispamsis. He finally retired in 2002. Over the years he and Marion enjoyed many trips to Florida and elsewhere. Roland was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Marion (Jones) Follett in 2003; his brother Oscar and sister Josie both in (2008). Roland is survived by son Larry (Debbie) of Saint John; daughters Anna Tranquilla (Stephen) of Fredericton and Julie Larrison (Karimu) Saint John- Ghana West Africa; grandchildren Sharon Lopez (Roy) of Maine USA, Stephen Follett (Heather) of Saint John, Tim Follett (Sheri) of Cambridge, ON, Stephanie Potter-Davey (Jordan) of Squamish, BC, Angela Hughes (James) of Charlottetown, PEI and Nathan Tranquilla (Nikki) of Fredericton; five great-grandchildren Darla, Carmen, Courtney, Aaron and Gabriel; several nieces, nephews and friends.
