KEMP, GERALD - The family of Gerald Francis Kemp is saddened at his passing on July 12 at the Moncton City Hospital after a brave and brief affliction with cancer. Born on August 25th 1944 in St. John, he married Louise Kemp (Shea; 1945-2010) in 1969 and resided in Fredericton. He is survived by his children, Drs. Kristina and Michael Kemp, and granddaughter Anna Bellabarba, all of Moncton. He leaves behind his sisters Judy Ellis and Margaret Guay, both of St. John, and Elizabeth Steeves of Ottawa. He is predeceased by his parents James and Elizabeth Kemp, and brother James Kemp. After receiving a BA (St.FX'68), a BEd (UNB'69), and later an MEd (UNB'86), Gerry spent most of his career teaching English, Theatre Arts and Canadian Literature at Fredericton High School where he very much enjoyed working and mentoring students until his retirement in 2002. He has long had a love of the arts and frequently produced student plays at the N.B. drama festival. Writing poetry became his most significant passion in recent years, earning an honorable mention for his first manuscript submitted to last year's Writers' Federation of New Brunswick Poetry Competition. Inspired by nature, Gerry was an avid outdoorsman and among many activities enjoyed fishing, hunting as well as golf and skiing. Other pastimes included reading, travel and time with his loving and beloved canine companion Abby.
Visitation will take place July 14th from 3 to 6 PM at McAdam's Funeral Home in Fredericton. The funeral service will take place at Holy Family Parish Church on July 15 at 2 PM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrance made to Hospice Fredericton would be appreciated by the family.
