It is with heavy hearts that we, his family announce the sudden passing of Kevin Joseph MacKinnon, a beloved husband, son, brother and uncle on Wednesday, July 10th, 2013 at home.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, Kevin was the son of Fabian and Helen (Cox) MacKinnon.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, spending time with his family, watching his favorite hockey team, The Montreal Canadiens and playing with his beloved pets, Jack, Sasha, Mac and Oreo. Kevin was employed in the family catering business and worked hard to make it a success. He brought a smile to everyone he met and will be truly missed.
Kevin leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Carollee (Mitchell) MacKinnon; brothers, Michael and Danny (Lorraine), aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; father in law, Harry Mitchell; special friend, Annie; sisters in law, Wilma (Brad), Rose (Trevor); brothers in law, Eddie and Bill (Elizabeth).
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Neil and Marion (Lahey) MacKinnon, Grand Mira and maternal grandparents, George and Helen (Jolly) Cox, Glace Bay.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee is Monday, 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment in the parish cemetery after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to The S.P.C.A. or a charity of one’s choice.
