Cecile (Cis) Marie Beaton
New Glasgow - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecile (Cis) Marie Beaton on July 14, 2013. Born in East Templeton, Quebec in 1926, she was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
After finishing school, she became a bank teller before joining the Canadian Womens’ Army Corps (CWAC) during the Second World War. She met her best friend and husband, Colin, while stationed in Halifax and they shared 50 marvelous years together before his passing.
She is survived by her sons: Rick (Brenda), Eric (Donna) and her daughter, Sue Lewis (Henry); brother, Ken Martell; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Cis had a love for children and welcomed Bonnie Watters and four other foster children into her home. She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane, infant son, John Glenn, infant granddaughter, Kara Lewis, brothers: Ed and Maurice.
Cecile volunteered in many aspects of the community including minor hockey, St. John Ambulance, board and ladies auxiliary member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 25 year member of the I.O.D.E, past ladies president of the Bluenose Curling Club, many years with Johnny Miles Marathon, ladies auxiliary of the New Glasgow Fire Department and dear to her heart, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34. She met many friends during her years curling, golfing, bowling and playing darts.
To her Minister, Rev. Richard Sand, your visits and prayers added much comfort to a lady that had a deep faith. Cis was very appreciative of the wonderful care provided by the doctors and nurses during her illness. To her wonderful friends and neighbours, you left an indelible impression on her and for that she was grateful.
There will be no visitation by request of the family. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Richard Sand officiating.
