On July 12th, 2013 Mrs. Shirley May Whitmore (nee Digby) passed away peacefully at her home in Kamloops, B.C. at the age of 78.

Survived by her children, Fred Jr. (Vicki), Edward (Lena), Ted (Diane) and Gloria (Dale).

Our mother had many life treasures, but at the top of that treasure chest were all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would know all there was to know about each and everyone of them and she was always proud to share that information with all her friends and family that she so enjoyed talking to on a daily or weekly basis. They are Tracey, Amanda, Jenna, Ashley (Daniel), Landon, Brad (Laura), Heather (Orin), Julian, Kristopher, Amanda and Kimber. Her great-grandchildren Tyrese, Nakeylia, Jordyn, Maggie, Ciera, Brendan, Bentley, Julian and Brielle. Mom also held a very special place in her heart for Kenny Brett, Christina Gust and her two children Lilly and Lukas.

Survived by her sister Bobbi (Ray) Evans and her brother Ken (Alice) Digby as well as many numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored. Mom kept us up to date with all the news of her family and friends from Vancouver, B.C.

Predeceased by her husband Fred (2007), step-son Allan Whitmore, her brothers Gordon and Gary and her sisters Isabelle, Grace and Ethel. She was also predeceased by her special friends and family members James and Claire Whitmore.

Mom was raised in Vancouver and attended General Brock Elementary School and Fairview High School. When General Brock announced their 100 year reunion party a few years ago, she joyously attended, and came back home to tell us all the wonderful people she had reconnected with and the funny stories that went along with this memorable trip. She had been so looking forward to sister Bobbi and her brother-in-law Ray's big birthday/anniversary bash which is coming up this August that she talked about it constantly, had her dress ready to go months ago!!... and could not wait to see all her family. We will celebrate in "Digby" style mom and will be thinking of you when we see all the relatives you so enjoyed.

Once school was finished Mom went to work for a place called "Teletone Music". Clients would have a microphone at their table and would say which song they wanted to hear and mom would run to find that particular record and song and play it for them.....those were the good ole' years.

She left Vancouver and moved to Kamloops in 1956 to work for her brother Gordon at a coffee shop in North Kamloops - now known as Mervo's Coffee Shop. The day our dad walked into that coffee shop, life for our Mom was about to take a big turn!! They fell in love immediately and married six months later on November 9, 1957.

Shortly after mom got busy having babies of her own, but that didn't keep her busy enough so she began her babysitting career for all her friends and family. The children she babysat for 35 years eventually became part of the Whitmore Clan.

Mom was an avid crafter and enjoyed knitting, from our Indian sweaters to our slippers - there was never a short supply!! She would be busily working all day, all night just to make each and everyone she knew whatever they wanted. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting and for a many years in the 1980's loved working with ceramics.

Mom was at her most happiest place when she was surrounded by her family and friends. Words cannot express our appreciation and love for Marie Urquart, mom's dearest and special friend for over 30 years. Mom and Marie had many adventurous shopping stories which she loved to share with all of us.

Our family would like to extend an invitation for you to attend a "Celebration of Life" on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Cres South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9. Even though mom did not require their assistance she had great compassion for this Society and how they help and assist people in their final journey.

Goodbye sometimes is not a
final end but the beginning
of a new chapter.
Mom has now joined her
two main men, her husband
Fred and of course Elvis.
You will be forever in our hearts.
