Geraldine 'Gerry' Turnbull
Born In: Reserve Mines
Passed in: Reserve Mines
Passed on: July 22nd, 2013
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Geraldine Turnbull on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Rod and Isa (McWhirter) Stubbard.
Gerry was a secretary with the Cape Breton District School Board for 37 years. She began her career after graduation from Reserve Mines District High School in 1977. Starting at Tompkins Elementary School, she then moved to Glace Bay Elementary, where she was employed up until the time of her illness. Gerry was a member of Local 5050, CUPE.
A very caring and compassionate person, Mom was always there to help others when needed. As a foster parent, this was never more evident when on a moments notice she would take at-risk children in and provide a loving and caring environment for them. She spent many years teaching those less fortunate the basic family values, love, respect and trust. Mom’s passion in life was her husband, children and grandchildren for whom she lived.
Geraldine is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Ernel Turnbull; daughters, Shauna (Wayne) Donovan, River Ryan, Jaclyn, at home; her son, Ernel (Val), Reserve Mines; and grandchildren, Dylon, Tytan, Gerilynne and Kyra. Also surviving are two brothers, George (Donna) and Erville (Billy); four sisters, Lillian (Sam), Josie (Sonny), Carol (James), Maurina; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and her mother-in-law, Mary Turnbull.
Besides her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her brother, Shelly Stubbard, sister, Marian Saccary, father-in-law, Gerald Turnbull, niece, Wanda McNeil and her very special nephew, Sgt. James MacNeil, who payed the ultimate price in Afghanistan
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev.
