EUGENE RAYMOND (GENE) RUFER
March 26, 1931 – July 20, 2013
Passed away suddenly in Gibsons, B.C. Survived by his two daughters Audrey and Barb and son Gordon; two granddaughters Lindsay and Jacqueline; four grandsons Jordan, Alex, Adam and Spencer.
Gene retired from Canadian Pacific Airlines October 31, 1986 as a Captain on overseas routes having begun as a Prairie crop duster. Gene was a true renaissance man who not only sailed boats – he built them. He was an accomplished sailor, skier and skater, still an active player in seniors’ hockey and played clarinet in the band in Gibsons. He left his fingerprint on the lives of Deanne, Doug and David, to whom he was known as “Rufe”; he taught them to ski, sail and skate. He taught them logical thinking and to use this to learn almost anything. This was also the key to his own success.
Memorial service was held July 30, 2013, at Devlin Funeral Home, 579 Seaview Road, Gibsons, B.C. (www.devlinfuneralhome.ca)
