BLAKNEY, MILLICENT MARY - Millicent Blakney passed away peacefully in the compassionate and highly professional care of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 27, 2013. Millicent (Millie) was born on March 31, 1923 in Castleton, Derbyshire, England and at the age of seven she and her family settled at Boyd's Corner, NB. During her lifetime she had the opportunity to live in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, places whose natural beauty she always enjoyed. Upon her retirement she relocated to Stanley, NB where for many years she enjoyed walking and skiing in a natural environment that she loved. She was truly enthralled with what nature had to offer. A dedicated mother, she always found time to volunteer with community organizations and church activities. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; her brother, John; and parents, John and Ethel Chamberlain. She is survived by her daughter, Rae Holmes (Glenn); son, John (Pat); granddaughters: Andrea, ChrisAnne and Tamara; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Millicent has requested cremation and made a special request for a small service with family and friends at her graveside which will be held at St. James Anglican Church in Tay Creek, NB on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Lidvald Haugen-Strand. A reception will be held after the service at St. Thomas Church, Stanley, NB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericton SPCA, Chalmers Foundation (Palliative Care) or a charity of the donor's choice.
