It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, brother, uncle and friend, Stephen Joseph MacKinnon, 69, a resident of Upper Leitches Creek, on Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Stephen was born in Sydney Mines, a son of the late Norman Melvin and Hilda May (Bennett) MacKinnon.
Before his retirement he was employed as a councillor at the Cape Breton Addiction Centre , Sydney.
Surviving is his wife, Henrietta (Clements) MacKinnon; his siblings, Mary Frances MacKinnon, New Glasgow, Ann MacDonald, Pictou, Flora (Jim) Gillis, United States, Lois (Gordon) Cordy, Sydney Mines, John (Beverly) MacKinnon, New Glasgow, Michael MacKinnon, Sydney Mines, Norma (Joseph) MacDougall, New Glasgow, Maureen (Kevin) O’Toole, Sydney Mines, also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a special family member, Malcolm MacCormick.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents and a brother Adrian.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton, the Victorian Order of Nurses or to a charity of choice.
