George Owen Hamlin - 76, Forties Road, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, July 29, 2013 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late George and Abbie (Hiltz) Hamlin. He had been employed with Atlantic Speedy Propane for 38 years during which time he received a diploma from the University of Texas. He retired as supervisor for Nova Scotia. He was an active member of St. Augustine of Hippo, Anglican Church, where he served as Warden. George was a faithful servant to God all his life. He was a valued member of the community and was always ready to lend a helping hand. George will be greatly missed by all. He maintained a life long love of farming and was a member and Past President of the Lunenburg Queens Federation of Agriculture and President of the New Ross Farmers Association, where he was involved for over 30 years. George was a loyal and devoted family man who had special relationships with each and every one of his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy (Greenough); two daughters, Susan (Dana) Reeves and Kathleen (Neil) McDow, both of the Forties; two sons, George (Nancy), Kentville and Scott (Kathy), New Ross; two sisters, Shirley (Ian) Fraser, Ontario and Penny Lockhart, Kentville; three brothers, Owen (Gail), Liverpool; Wayne (Marilyn), Kentville; Glenn “Joe”, Coldbrook; nine grandchildren; three great granddaughters; many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 in the Forties Community Centre. A celebration of George’s life was held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 in St. Augustine of Hippo, Anglican Church, the Forties, Reverend Judy Phillips officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the St. Augustine of Hippo, Anglican Church or the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department.
