Conroy, Donald Elwood – Alton

Conroy, Donald Elwood – age 88, formerly of Alton, passed away July 8, 2013 in The Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield. Born on November 13, 1924 in Middle Stewiacke, he was the youngest of 13 children of the late William and Bertha (Tupper) Conroy. Donald was a veteran of World War II. For many years he had been employed with Halifax Shipyards, working in the time office. He was an active member in Alton United Church, and later St. Andrew’s United Church, Stewiacke, as well as Alton Community Centre. He enjoyed all sports, and particularly liked baseball, hockey and curling.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Boomer, The Magnolia; daughter, Beverly (Albert) Burch, Alamogordo, New Mexico; grandchildren, Matthew (Lesley), Ryan, Samantha; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Martha “Bella”; sister, Dorothy Miller, Alton. He was predeceased by his son, Robert “Bobby”; sisters, Winnifred, Evelyn, Alice, Pearl, Vivian, Ruth May, Ella; brothers, Frank, Fitzgerald “Jerry”, John and Andrew.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held August 4 at 3 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
