Minerva Hull

HULL, MINERVA JANE – 1936 – 2013 - It is with great sadness that the family of Minerva Jane Hull announces her peaceful passing at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 31, 2013, two years after her diagnosis with cancer. Born in Millville, NB, Minerva (Merva) was the daughter of Sadie (Chute) and Lester Hull. She graduated from Millville Superior School in 1954 and then studied nursing at the Victoria Public Hospital Nursing School in Fredericton. After her training, she worked as a registered nurse in Fredericton and Saint John, NB, Welland, Ontario, and the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. Merva left Montreal and returned to New Brunswick to be with her aging parents. During this time she set up a shop in St. Andrews, called ‘The Chickadee Gift Shop’ where she sold local artisan products and her own line of silk scarves and earrings. Merva had so many rich talents, loves and hobbies including the design and creation of her hand-dyed silk scarf collections, practicing photography, and collecting all manner of antiques (furniture, jewelry, dishes and fabrics). She also loved music and had a natural and beautiful touch on the piano. Merva was an artist through and through, and deeply appreciated all of nature’s beauty – often seeing the essence of things that others did not. She marveled at the billowing clouds, the swaying field grasses, and the exquisite colors and composition of flowers, trees and sky. Merva cherished her family, and delighted in the development and accomplishments of her nieces and nephews; and in recent years her grand-nieces and nephews. She loved family gatherings and special occasions, and was always keenly interested in keeping in touch with family, both close and extended. Merva was an avid student of the history and genealogy of the Hulls and Chutes, and took great pleasure in the anecdotes and biographies of her family’s ancestors. Her family will miss her greatly. She is survived by her sisters, Kerry Hull and Jacqueline (Jackie) Meldrum, both of Fredericton, NB; her brothers Dale Hull (Judy) of Manotick, Ontario and Norman Hull (Marina) of Millville, NB; as well as a bounty of nieces: Sharon Price, Sonya Hull, Andrea Hull, Kristin Hull-Millar, Meghan Hull-Jacquin, Ginger Hull, and Heather Hull; and nephews Graydon Tranquilla, Stephen Tranquilla and Greg Hull. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the kind and caring physicians and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Everett Chalmers hospital during these final weeks.
Visitation will be held at the Millville United Baptist Church, 1469 Route 605, Millville, NB on Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 2 pm to the hour of the funeral service at 3 pm with nephew Stephen Tranquilla officiating. Interment at the Millville Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Millville Cemetery Fund or the Louise Breau Memorial Medical Trust Fund. Arrangements by Flewelling Funeral Home, Nackawic, NB. www.flewellingswan.com The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul… (Excerpt - The 23rd Psalm)
