Etta Jean Allen - 89, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Oyster Pond, Jeddore, Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late William and Lena (Cooper) Hartlin. She was a member of the Canning United Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department. Etta loved to bake and was well-known for her bread and pies. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially 45’s. She is survived by four daughters, Gloria (Terry) Porter and Mary (William) DeWolfe, both of Canning; Deborah (Earle Parker) Bigelow, South Rawdon; Cheryl (Bruce) Dandurand, Kentville; four sons, Richard (Barb) Allen, Lumsden; Eugene Manley (Linda Murray), Truro; Reg Manley, Berwick; Wayne Manley (Rhonda Kelly), Habitant; 15 grandchildren, Jody (Wendy) Porter, Vicki Porter, Amy (Jody) Van Kippersluis, Robert Allen, Anthony (Emmie) Bigelow, Jeffrey (Jane) Bigelow, Shelley DeWolfe (Randy), Debra (Glen) Wilson, Paul (Karen) Manley, Stephen (Nicole) Manley, Caitlin Manley, Sara Manley, Christopher Manley, Corey Dandurand and Matthew Dandurand; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Webber; a brother, Lloyd Hartlin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Loran Manley; her second husband, Charles Allen; four sisters, Leota, Helen, Leontine and her twin, Ethel; four brothers, Thomas, Fulton, Harris and Clarence. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Sarah Scott officiating. Burial took place in the Habitant Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Lung Association. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Grand View Manor for the wonderful care given to Etta.
